I didn't realize it, until a friend mentioned his birthday today...his coincided with Mom's death. As for now I have tonnes of things to say...but I couldn't put it into words.
If I could have one real conversation with Mom today, I would have lots of things to ask, things to tell, things to cry on, things to laugh at. I would like to hug her, not wanting to let her go. I would bring her to go and dine at her fave restaurants, having her fave food. Take her window shopping, buy her things she wanted. Hold her hands while walking side by side. It will be a blissful and memorable day. All this I wanted, for whatever cost it may take. But I come to realize one thing, am I willing to let her go again, like 5 years ago? I still had a hard time coping with her demise. With no family around me anymore, it's hard for me to talk about this. All I can do now is cry my heart out, remember our best moments, pray for her and feeling better. As I quote Albert Smith, tears are the safety valve of the heart when too much pressure is laid on it.

John Little ak Jeffrey Demang (15th June 1967-22nd June 2011)

On June 13 morning, my eldest brother, John Little was unconscious at the longhouse in Bawang Assan. The ambulance took him to the hospital that morning with little hope in my heart. He was admitted to ward in noon for observation. He was severely dehydrated and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). The doctors told me of his weak heart and lung infection which explains why he has been having terrible mucus and cough. I took care of him in the hospital for 6 days with 3-hourly feeding time of Enercal milk via feeding tube. He even spent his 44th birthday in the ward which falls on the 15th. He was discharged on the 19th and went home to longhouse.

During the day, he was on normal behaviour and diet of 30ml of glucose drink and 3-hourly milk. Lunch and dinner consists of blended diet of porridge, fish and vegetable. By night, he couldn't slept a wink. He constantly whining and moaning..I guess he is in great deal of pain but he couldn't tell me coz he can't talk. His whole lower body is bloated due to the IV drip.

Slowly I listened to his breathing and he vomitted...slowly slipped away. I said to him "Are you leaving us, Uni? Coz if u are, please let me know." He took last gulp of breathe and passed away in my arms. He was gone on 22nd June 2011 approximately 9am...exactly the same time my Dad died 2 months and 28 days before that. He was exactly 44 years 6 days old.
Uni's funeral was held in the longhouse. Many didn't expect this coming; some even shocked to hear he was admitted to hospital before that.

He was buried in Lebaan Cemetery in Bawang Assan alongside
my late aunt Rita Satu ak Suli (dad's youngest sister), my grandfather Suli ak Berinyang and grandmother Ensuna ak Along (both my dad's parents) on 24th June 2011. 'Ngetas ulit' was a week after the funeral.

I'm starting a new life alone now. This year proves to be very,very difficult for me. It's a bumpy road ahead...coming out of a directionless relationship, had to quit my job of three years, I had a breakdown and depression. I know it's a scar would take a long time to heal, but I wanna survive this and I pray I will survive this.

Happy Gawai Dayak And Kaamatan to all my Sarawakian and Sabahan friends out there. Have a blessed holiday to all of u.
As for this year, I'm not celebrating but I will be in the longhouse. I welcome guests but I apologize for the preparations this year. This year is very lonely for me... usually we celebrate at the longhouse even though it's just me, him and Brother John. I remember he will to the orchard to get bamboos to make his traditional special menu , the lemang. He also loved to cook 'lulun babi' (pork in bamboo) and 'kasam ikan' (fermented fish). He will sit in the ruai waiting for the countdown and shout 'OOOOHHHAAAA!!' once it's midnite. Then he will go from one 'ruai' (long corridor) to another serving his specially reserved 'tuak' (rice wine). People loved him for his generosity, wisdom, warmth and personality. But this year I'm alone with John. I won't be sitting at the 'ruai' like the rest of the longhouse. I rather be alone.

Dear all,
it's been so long and i apologize. It's a rough start for me this year. My dad (Mr Jeffrey Demang ak Suli) passed away on 24th March 2011. I had to quit my job since there's no one to take care of John, my handicapped brother. Now I'm taking care of him in the longhouse.

We went to Mom and Frank's cemetery when my uncle came here recently.

My uncle from Miri came with his wife to visit us last December. It was unexpected but nevertheless pleasant. He changed a lot physically since falling sick due to chemical exposure during his working stint offshore.

He was my late mom's eldest brother. He lost his eldest daughter to cancer who left 5 small kids in 2004. I can understand his grievance and it shows when he came to visit.

Fever has struck!

Last nite had a fever of 40c.had to apply cold wet compress to lower the temp. Went to my annual CNY company dinner last nite. I was ok the early part of the evening. By the time halfway of the course, i started to lose my tastebud, and blocked nose. then i can feel my body temp rises....i head home...had a fever chill. Took my meds, watch my korean drama..head for bed.then, i cudnt sleep....i can feel my bed is getting warmer due to my fever. so i wet a towel and applied it to my body and forehead. then it started to cool down. for a moment, i had hallucinations....i can hear voices in my room and thot i saw people there....scary wooo!!
But now i am getting ok...just some cough and sniffy nose.

On my way to work this morning, i have a nagging feeling of going to makan McDee.so I went to town this afternoon but it turn out to be that I didn't have the time to eat in so i tapau la. but i didnt eat a bit before riding on my scooter. So I head to the office hungrily and at a traffic light a lady driver wanted to turn left without signal light.so she turned without seeing me and i flew a few feet, fortunately no cars from behind. my bike's ok but scratched. I had graze cuts on my right arm and my right knee is swollen with tugging feeling as i typed this. as the elders say i'm actually 'puni' or kempunan. shit, i feel like hell.my sweater is torn,my slacks also torn. i feel like a bloated puffer fish.

Mom's 2nd Anniversary

Yesterday (11 August 08) was Mom's 2nd Anniversary. I took the day off and went to the cemetery with Dad and cleaned up the place. We said our rosary there and then prepared for the night's rosary at home. It was a sombre day. Dad was quiet. I knew deep down he's still very much grieving Mom and Frank.

Today is Monday.Plus, new rules for our dealers effective today made our office phone the hotlines of the year.Some asked for clarification, some to complain, others to make us irritated.Stupid upper management, made rules and regulations disregard of what the effect may happen later.All they knw is to change and make it look modern and nice but the fact is it made our work tripled and tangled....dang!!

Another misfortune

Actually I'm not in the mood to celebr8 Gawai Dayak this year for 2 reasons. One of it is that we are still missing both Mommy and Frankie as this is their fave season of all. Secondly is that recently on 3rd May our house was broken into. Dad lost his wallet which contained his month's pension because he wanted to pay for his bills. He just took out RM1000++ to pay his credit card and a new set of dentures.

I was sleeping upstairs in my room and Dad went to a nearby shop (can be seen from the house) and my elder brother Johnny was downstairs sitting on a chair. The thief(s) climbed the back fence bending it a bit and took Dad's wallet on top of the tv right in front of Johnny's eyes (my brother is handicapped) and he dumped the wallet with all docs into a nearby back lane which later was found by two secondary chinese boys. They only took the cash money but didnt withdraw any money from the ATM cards.

I think I knew who did this and I'm waiting for the right moment to catch them. If I get them, they will never be the same again, physically and mentally. These kids are school dropouts and some of them are still in school wasting their parents money. One of them is my ex next door neighbour who always spend his time at a local cybercafe playing games after school (or do he even go to school?). He flashes a new handphone recently. Where else would he get the money? His father is a boat/ferry operator, his mother is a coffee shop waitress.His 17 y.o. sister is a prostitute driving around her pimp's car showing off her stupidity and his second sister is also a prostitute in the making.

I'm sooooo disappointed because this has been a series of misfortune that happened to my family in the span of 2 years!!

Tell me, is it wrong for me for not believing in Him?

Today (2nd May) is Frankie's 1st Anniversary. My dad and I wanted to have a simple rosary at home tonite but we have special evening mass at church today by our new elected Bishop Joseph Hii so we postpone the rosary to tomorrow nite.

Miracle of a butterfly

Last Sunday (19 Apr) my dad fetched me from work coz it was raining in the morning and I couldn't ride the scooter. So we went to run some errands and our first stop was a car workshop to get the car aligned and change of spare tyre. He gave the keys to the workshop's owner and the guy asked one of his employees ( a very young boy probably underage) to drive the car into the workshop while my dad went to the lottery shop nearby and I went to Guardian on the next building. We didn't noticed that my dad left his Samsung hp on the car's dashboard. After the whole business was done, we went to a hypermarket to get some groceries and then head home.

It was until late Sunday noon he asked me whether I saw his hp around. I helped looking around the house at the places he usually left the phone (near the tv, by the sofa etc) but no avail. I rang the phone many many times and yet the phone is ringing but there's no vibration or sound at all around the house. I was thinking if the phone was stolen then the culprit must have thrown the simcard away but my dad said probably the guy still want to use his prepaid credit (RM18.83 to be exact) so that's why the phone is still switched on. I was soooooo upset and sent 2 smses to 'whoever' took the phone asking them to send the phone back to me. I cried coz that was my hp I bought with my student's loan money ( I know, I know...) Sayang baahhhh...

By Monday morning, I gave up. So I told my dad to forget about it and promised to get him a new one after I get my paycheck. Amazingly he's still very positive about the hp and said that the phone is not missing, it's just misplaced.

That Monday evening after we had our dinner and watched tv, suddenly a big butterfly (well, actually it was a huge beautiful moth) landed right next to me on the sofa I was sitting on. I was surprised at first because it just plopped next to me and when I touched it, it didn't move at all. FYI, I was still upset and sad about the missing hp. So when I saw the butterfly suddenly I felt soooo calm. (Seriously, man!) I don't know why but I liked its presence there so I took out my camera and snapped a few shots with flash on but still that thing won't budge so I said to dad it must have like its pic taken har har har...Then after about half an hour perched on the sofa with me, it flew to the wall and guess where it landed? Right next to mom's pic frame. I was surprised so I took a few shots. Corny but amazing. Then I remembered 2 nites before on Saturday I saw the same butterfly on our front gate while I was feeding my cats outside the house. My cats were so excited to see it and watched it with intense interest but I made sure my cats won't be able to get it.

Then we went to bed with the butterfly still in the house. The next morning (Tuesday) I woke up and went to the kitchen and saw the butterfly perched on the cupboard where my mom displayed her tea sets and expensive dish. So I went to work as usual that day.

By evening when I came back from work, dad told me that the butterfly 'returned' his hp. I asked him what does he mean by that. He told me that the hp was found at a fellow rosary group member's house where my dad attended on the Saturday nite (the day the hp was 'missing'). I asked my dad how come the owner didn't notice the calls that I made to the hp and the morning alarm that my dad set to ring every morning at 630am since the hp was set at a full volume.

Well, we never knew why or how but I believed that the butterfly that came was my mom and her presence calmed me down as if as to tell me to be patient and keep hoping. I know that this is kind of corny but hey...it's a wonderful story isn't it?

Mesmerised? That's my fave old meow...Mrs Ibuk (Ibuk means Makcik or Auntie in Iban). Her actual age is a mystery since she's been around since I'm in secondary school ( 10-12 years ago). She's still in good shape with the exception of a few lost teeth so when she eats she couldn't grab the food using her teeth from the ground so she would hold the food in both her paws and toss it to the air and she would catch it with her mouth. Smart huh? That's my cat....

This pic was taken on my eldest brother John (middle, yellow shirt) 39th birthday after his trip to the clinic after having his xrays taken for medical purpose.

He was flanked by Dad (left) and Mom (right). Mom kept on ranting on how old she looked in this pic. We took many same shots but she kept asking me to delete the pics. She did looked tired in this pic. Even Frank told me that Mom looked unusually tired and aged when she went for her visiting trip to Sabah to meet Frank in Aug the same year.

Exactly a month, 3 weeks and 4 days after this pic was taken and 11 days after the Sabah trip, she passed away peacefully, leaving this haunting pic of her in my vivid memory of what she said. Frank was awfully devastated...he never saw the signs of her passing. She never get to share her experiences with me like she always do after coming back from any trips she had.

This is one pic I will never forget for the rest of my life bcoz this is one of the last pics I took before her passing.

This is Frank and Mom during Pesta Kaul in Kuala Igan (1981). As I look back to this picture,it occured to me that Frank and Mom has always been so close.

In my memory (I was 4 years old then) it was the happiest days ever. Picnic by the beach...seeing the boats and events. I have a picture of me and Frank sitting on a log that one day I'll promise to find (currently I don't know where it is) which I think personally the best pic I've ever took with Frank.

This pic was taken on a long boat which was the main method of travelling during those days.That's Mom in front (they said I looked so much like her...) and at the back from left are the staffs from Klinik Desa Kuala Igan. Yup, that's Frank in the blue shirt and 'moi' in the striped dress dreaming away. I remembered that during that age I used to dreamed a lot...always staring blankly into far distances. Why.....??

FYI,Dad was putting the tiles and statue on the day Frankie passed away in Labuan with the money sent by Frankie in April 2007.Until today, I still have a hard time fathoming the fact of all this things that has happened.

Last election day (8 March) fell on my late Mom's 59th birthday.It was an emotional day not becoz of the election results {honestly,who cares?BN still wins majority...no major biggie!! :) }but becoz it's another memorable day about Mom.
My dad and I went to the Catholic cemetery in Jalan Salim (near Farley) after Sunday Mass for short prayer where she laid side by side to Frank. As I stood there cleaning the tombs and staring at their pics, i felt a tug in my heart as i realised that i still didn't accept that they're gone forever.I missed them soooo much.
God, I wish i know how to chase these feelings of loneliness away.I became more emotional when I saw Dad shed his tears as he said his prayer to Mom and Frank. Then it occured to me that Mom and Frank's loss brought great impact to me more than i knew i was. Shit, I never looked at it that way.

Sorry for not writing anything for a while. Just got back from campus aft the exams.now i'm on holidays.
guess what? Just had my 1st tattoo. I made it in honour of my late bro and mom. Frank always wanted a tattoo all his life but he never get around it. mom on the other hand regard me as a butterfly. A free soul,light and floating. so i decided ot make a tattoo of a butterfly on my waist above the butt area. hence the 'butt'erfly design. so check it out.

Hey this is my first post in my first ever blog.Hurmmm i'm doing this in memory of my late brother Rentap. (http://www.ibanguy.blogspot.com/)

His recent passing (2nd May 2007) was such a great loss to my family especially,to his friends, colleagues and loved ones.I want to remember him in such a way that he loved the most, of course by blogging so if u have any comments, do drop some.
Also i dedicate this blog to our late Mommy Regina Dina Simon who passed away last year (8 Aug 2006) since she is very close to my dear late brother. If u notice in his blog he made a poem dedicated to her after her passing last year which i think personally the most beautiful and touching moment ever. He was known for not showing his emotional feelings but my Mommy's passing brought a great impact on him dearly.
I miss them both so much, god knows how much, and may God Bless Them and this is for u Frankie and Mommy!!
